round and rounder: dw-003

for those bored from seeing square watches, here’s the tasty looking set of dw-003 in my collection.

these g-shocks are affordable and plentiful in yahoo japan. a handful has also surfaced in ebay in recent weeks.

the only negative display in the set is the dw-003usb-3t “red dragon“. it sports a leather-like strap which i am absolutely not a fan of. i will have to swap the strap to a regular resin if i want to wear this.

a “blue dragon” was also released together with this in july 1999.

the seller claimed my “dragon” was new old stock. it did arrived with a very old hang-tag and i shall not complain given the good price i paid for it.

grey dw-003-8

the series of four dw-003 in various colours use what i believe are known as “nexax” straps. i’m not sure what nexax refers to exactly. Perhaps it’s the metallic wire mesh details on the straps. the details contrast very well with the resin straps, especially on the grey and black models.

there are countless variations to the dw-003 family of g-shocks. most of them use velcro or nylon straps. i know i have mentioned this countless times already, but resin rocks!

the tips of these straps are marked with a “G”.

a “G” lights up in the display when the backlight is activated. this was a common feature in many early g-shock models.
