old froggey: dw-6300-1c frogman

the best thing about old and beat-up watches is i can wear them freely without worrying about scratching or staining them.

this dw-6300-1c arrived with a dead battery and missing the strap retainer. not big issues really and they were quickly fixed after a short walk to marco marketing (one of two official g-shock distributors in singapore). i simply cannibalised a retainer from one of my old mudman straps and the technician was able to fix the retainer onto the frogman.

the dw-6300 series was born in august 1993 with the introduction of the dw-6300-1a and did not carry the “frogman” designation on its bezel. instead, the frogman “insignia” can be found on the watch’s caseback. This was only the case for Japan-releases only though; and export versions of the watch carry no such indication.

the 1c was released in november 1993 and there are now a total of five froggies in the 6300 line-up. Sjors of g-peopleland has an excellent write-up of his version on his 50-gs blog.
